SV Boys Win Conference Track & Field Meet

The Southeast Valley boys team traveled to Sioux Rapids on Tuesday, May 6th for the Twin Lakes Conference track & field meet hosted by Sioux Central. The Jaguars made the trip looking to build on their successful season by adding a conference team title to this year’s resume. After competing in 18 different events against the other 12 conference schools, the Southeast Valley Jaguars found themselves on top of the conference field winning their second team title in the past four years. The Jaguars scored 136 points to claim the title. Sioux Central was second with 104.5 and South Central Calhoun was third with 91.5 points.

The Jaguars also found themselves with 2 individual and 3 relay conference titles. Individual conference titles went to Dreyvon Steadman in the 100m dash with a winning time of 11.56 and Kayden Showers claimed the 200m dash in a time of 22.83.

The first relay team to win a conference title on the night was the 4 x 200m relay team of Dreyvon Steadman, Logan Jaeschke, Bryce Harrison and Kayden Showers shattering their own school record running a blistering 1:31.21. Several races later, the same foursome teamed up to win the 4 x 100m relay with another school record, winning the relay in 43.50. Having the team title clinched, the 4 x 400m relay team of Bryce Harrison, Kolton Ollinger, Logan Jaeschke and Colin Johnson ran a season best 3:36.64 to win the relay.

The Jaguars also had five runner-up conference performances as well on the night. Bryce Harrison took 2nd place in the long jump with a jump of 19-05.5”, Kayden Showers was silver in the 100m dash in a time of 11.79, while Alex Burger took 2nd in the 400m low hurdles in 56.22; which is 2nd best time in school history. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Alex Burger, Casey Hanson, Kolton Ollinger and Colin Johnson also took silver in their second fastest time of the year 1:03.08. Casey, Logan, Colin and Alex teamed up in the sprint medley relay to take 1:37.71 to take 2nd in that event as well.

Coach Nuss commented, “We knew we were the favorites to win the conference, but we still needed to execute the races, especially the more technical aspects of the field events, starts and handoffs and we did that in every event on Tuesday. This was by far one of the best meets we’ve had this year in terms of executing every event to a T. I am proud of all the hard work and the willingness to be coachable from all of our athletes this year as well as all of the coaches who have put in the time to prepare these athletes to perform the way they did Tuesday. None of it wouldn’t have been possible without everybody working together.”

The Jaguars will finish their season on Monday, May 12th at Sac City. They will then compete in the class 2A state qualifying meet at Ogden on Thursday, May 15th. Those qualifying from the SQM will advance to the Iowa State High School meet in Des Moines the weekend of May 22nd – 24th.
