Jag Football Loses Battle of Ranked Teams
The Southeast Valley team was ranked #14 and were 4-0 and headed down to Carroll Kuemper who was ranked #1 and the defending State Champions with a win streak of 18 games and found out very fast why they are the best in Class 2A this season.
Kuemper came out fast with a hurry up offense and caught the Jags because they had prepared to stop a very explosive run game and went down and scored right away. 3 plays later the Jags turned it over and in a blink of an eye it was 14-0 and it went downhill from there in the first half with turnovers, penalties, bad snaps, bad blocking, bad decisions and some bad passing. Basically everything you can't do to win any game let alone a team this good. It was a half we had to forget about quickly.
We had a heart to heart at half and just said do not give up. Show them you are not quitters and that you're not just going to lay down. Coaches just wanted to see improvement and that is what the boys did. They came out the second half and put together a 16 play and almost 8 minute drive off the clock to score. Casey Hanson hit Alex Burger for the 3 yard TD and Spencer Peterson made the PAT
After the 3rd quarter the Jags won that quarter 7-0. Then Kuemper put 2 drives together in the 4th but the Jags finished the night with a long 60 yard TD pass from Mason Bahr to Logan Jaeschke and Spencer Peterson made the PAT. The Jags won the second half 14-13 but after the first half it was way too late. This was something to build on for this week's game.
We need to move on and put this game way way behind us. THe quicker we move on the better we will be.
Casey Hanson 8 for 11 passing for 56 yards and 1 TD. He also had 20 rushes for 90 yards
Mason Bahr was 3 for 6 passing for 85 yards and 1 TD
Logan Jaeschke had 3 receptions for 83 yards and 1 TD
Bryce Harrison had 4 catches for 20 yards
Alex Burger 2 catches for 14 yards and 1 TD
Wyatt Muench had 3 carries for 22 yards
Spencer Peterson was 2 for 2 on PAT. Also had some very good punts.
The defense did hold their TB to 26 carries for 111 yards. He was averaging 11.4 yards a carry. So to hold him to 4.2 yards a carry was huge but then the pass game burned us.
Defense leaders
Bryce Harrison 5.5
Logan Jaeschke 7
Keelan Wellman 8
Wyatt Muench 6
Clay Lambert 7
Deegan Brandel 4.5
We need a great week of practice and move on as fast as we can
