Jags Win 14-13 in Thriller Game
The Southeast Valley football team traveled to Okoboji with a 4-1 record to face Okoboji with a 4-1 record who had been ranked in the top 10 all season. Last year Okobji was undefeated and the Jags lost in overtime so this was a big redemption game for the boys.
Okoboji took the opening drive 8 plays and scored and went up 7-0. It looked like it might be a long night for the boys as easy as Okoboji went down the field as Okoboji had the momentum and looked like the better team.
The Jags took their opening drive for 12 plays with runs from Jake Paterson and 8 runs from Casey Hanson. Casey hanson had a 2 yard TD run and Spencer Peterson made the PAT
Okoboji moved down the field with a 12 play drive and their offense was looking good. Then Keelan Wellman had a great Interception to help change momentum.
The Jags moved the ball with runs from Wyatt Muench and Casey Hanson and Casey Hanson hit Logan Jaeschke for an 8 yard TD and Spencer Peterson made the PAT. Not knowing that was our last score that PAT ended up being the game winner.
Spencer Peterson kicked it into the end zone and really gave the Jags a good start to Okoboji 3rd drive. But Okoboji wasted no time again with big pass plays and some good runs and went down the field to the 16 yard line. THen the Jags defense stepped up and stopped Okoboji on 4th and 1 on the 7 yard line. This was a huge stand by the boys because Okoboji was making things look way too easy.
Jags offense just tried getting it away from the Endzone and actually lost yards before punting it back to them to have a chance to score before half.
3 plays later Koltan ollinger had an Interception in the endzone to save a score and the Jags went into halftime winning14-7
Jags came out and picked up some yards but then threw an INT. We were hoping that was not what Okoboji needed to get things going but the Jags defense stood strong and stopped them again on 4th down.
Jags put a nice long 12 play drive together and were looking like they were going to take it in for a score when the Jags picked up a 15 yard penalty which really hurt our momentum and actually gave Okoboji the momentum for the rest of the game. That drive ended with the Jags converting a 4th and 1 and then were stopped 4 plays later on a 4th and 1. From that point the Jags offense were shut out for the next three times they got the ball and never found a way to pick up a first down.
3 plays after stopping the Jags Okoboji ran a trick play for a 43 yard TD and just like that it was going to be tied. UNTIL their stud kicker missed the PAT and the score was 14-13 Jags with over 8 minutes to go.
The Jags defense was asked to do a lot over the last 8 minutes but were able to stop Okoboji two times to get the ball back to the offense and the Jags went into Victory formation for the win. Just a huge win for the entire team.
The offensive line did a great job. We needed ball control to keep Okoboji offense off the field. Those boys ar Kyle Eastman, Drake Nitch, Deegan Brandel, Clay Lambert, Korbin Spangler and Ian Brunner
The Defense line never gets any credit and their number 1 job is to keep people off our LB's and they neve get any credit for what they do. Ian Brunner, Korbin Spangler, Josh Martens and Trevor Anderson. Then everyone gets the tackles but without them doing their jobs we never make the plays we make.

Wyatt Muench 7 carries for 27 yards and 1 catch for 12 yards
Jake Patterson 7 carries for 26 yards
Bryce Harrison 2 catches for 34 yards

Spencer Petersoan had another outstanding night of kicking. He had 3 kickoffs and 2 of them were touchbacks and those are huge making a team start from the 20. He also was 2 for 2 PAT and the second one ended up being the game winner. His punting has been outstanding the last 2 weeks and none of his punts have been returned because of how far he has kicked them and away from their returners.
So the Jags move to 5-1 and the next 2 games will be played at home. The Jags just finished the last 4 of 5 games on the road so it will be nie to get back home.
