Southeast Valley Football Team Loses 21-16 to #4 Ranked Spirit Lake.

The Jaguars were coming off a huge win last week with a 14-13 win over Okoboji and heard that Spirit Lake just upset #1 ranked Kuemper and the boys were like wow. We told them to enjoy the win and we will get prepared for Spirit Lake. That is exactly what the boys did. They had a great week of practice and most of all they believed they could play with them and they came out and showed everyone how good of a football team we have here at Southeast Valley.  The week started off with Coach Swieter showing them 10 plays from last season against Spirit Lake. I told them we are a 100% different team than a year ago and told them they can compete in this game.

So the game started with the Jaguars starting on the 20 yard line. They started with a 14 play drive with runs of 4-7-6-5-8-2-3 from Casey Hanson. Casey also connected with Bryce Harrison for a 8 yard catch, 15 yard catch and finished with one of the best catches that ever happened on the Gowrie field by catching a perfect throw from Casey for a 11 yard TD as he was running out of bounds. Spencer Peterson made the PAT. What a way to start. THis was a nice long drive that took almost 6 minutes off the clock.

Spirit Lake wasted no time with a 64 yard run from their QB that we missed about 5 tackles on and just like that it was 7-7

Jags got the ball back and threw an INT 2 plays later. Things did not look good as this gave them great field position.

But the Jags defense was up to the task and forced a fumble on 1st goal and got the ball back.

Jags could not get out of the endzone then Spencer Peterson helped change the game with a 60 yard punt to change field position.

They put together a 14 play drive together but had to settle for a FG to make the score 10-7

Before half the Jags moved the ball past mid field but just could not get any more yards. So they brought the Field Goal Team on and SPencer Peterson made a 47 yard Field Goal to tie the game 10-10. This also set a new school record. THen Specer kicked it into the endzone to prevent them from trying to score before half.

The 3rd quarter was a battle of defenses. Spirit Lake was stopped 3 times and the Jags offense twice and at the end of the 3rd it was still 10-10.

To be 10-10 with the number 4 ranked team was huge.

In the 4th on 3rd and 15 they threw a perfect 31 yard strike for a TD and went for 2 and got it to take a 18-10 lead.

Mason Bahr came into the game and hit a 34 yard pass to Bryce Harrsion and a 38 yarder to Alex Burger. Casey Hanson came in and had runs of 6-5-2-2-1 and a 2 yard TD. Jags did not get the 2 point conversion. Score 18-16 Lake

Jags tried onside but did not get it. Jags defense stood strong and helped them to a GF with less than 1 minute left to take the 21-16 lead.

The JAgs hit a couple quick pass plays and got to the 26 yard line but threw an INT on the last play of the game.

This was Gary Balks first game calling the defense and he did a great job for his first time calling. The defense played very well for Gary and gave him everything they had. Just came up a little short just from a couple big plays.

All coaches are very proud of how the boys competed and never gave up.

This moves the Jags to 5-2 with losses over #1 Ranked Kuemper and #4 ranked Spirit Lake.
