SV Football vs Okoboji
The Southeast Valley football team gave their best effort to upset Undefeated ranked number 3 Okoboji by taking the game into overtime but just did not have enough at the end to pull it off.
The Jags defense came out right away and forced Okoboji to punt.
Jags offense ran the ball 4 times with Drew Temple and Casey Hanson and then Casey hit Bryce Harrison for a 12 yard catch and then hit Logan Jaeschke for a 41 yard TD. Spencer Peterson made the PAT and Jags led 7-0
On the kickoff Spencer Peterson had one of the best kicks he has ever had. We had one rule and that was for the ball to not touch number 1 hands. It was so good of a kick that it bounced right over the guy we wanted to but number 1 picked it up and took it 86 yards for the TD. Coaches were not very happy with the kickoff team because we ran into the blocks and did not avoid them and not get tied up. This just killed us because just like that it was 7-7 and they had not run an offense play.
Jags offense takes a 11 play drive down the field runs from Drew Temple, Casey Hansona and Mason Bahr with great blocking from Hayden Greene, Joe Kauffman, Nick Filed, Clay Lambert, Korbin Spangler and Ian Brunner. On play 11 Casey Hanson hit Collin Johnson for a 5 yard TD and led 14-7 after Spencer hit the PAT.
Both teams punt on their next drive
Okoboji on 3rd and 21 completes a 52 yarder for a first and then score to tie it up 14-14. We knew we had to eliminate their big plays and now it was 14-14 and all Okboji had was two big plays but that is all they needed.
Jags came right back pounding the ball with great runs from Casey and Drew and also Logan Jaeschke had a 34 yard run and then Casey Hanson ran it in from the 5 to take a 21-14 lead into half.
Goal was to come out on the opening drive and score and the boys did just that with runs from Drew and Casey and then Casey hit Logan for a 1 yard TD to take a 28-14 lead.
Jags lead 28-14 going into the 4th and Okoboji put together a 18 play drive together and make the score 28-21.
Jags drive down to the 20 and on 4th down fumble the snap and turn it over on downs.
Okoboji starts driving and time is running out and with 31 seconds left they throw a short pass and we could not make a tackle and he scrambled for 53 yards and tied it up and the game went into overtime.
On third down the Jags scored a TD and the Refs waived it off. There is no doubt if it was college or the NFL a red flag would have been thrown because it sure looked like Alex Burger had his foot down for the TD but in High School you just have to move on. Jags had 4th and Long so Spencer Peterson kicked a 33 yard FG to take a 31 to 28 lead.
Okoboji scored a TD 2 plays later for the win.
A loss like this hurts. It hurts a lot. To play a team that is undefeated and to the wire is huge but gut wrenching the way we lost the game. It was ours and we did not finish at the end. No excuses, we just did not get it done at the end. We need to move on fast and just get better. Learn from this but do not hang our heads. Be proud of how they played is all I can say for them.
Jags finished with more yards than Okoboji.
Casey Hanson was 7 for 11 passing for 77 yards and 2 TD's and also had 29 carries for 115 yards and 1 TD

Logan Jaeschke had 6 receptions for 104 yards and 2 TD's
