Southeast Valley 7th Grade Dominates Newell‑Fonda, 63–17
The Southeast Valley 7th grade boys basketball team kept its momentum rolling with a commanding 63–17 victory over Newell‑Fonda on Monday night. The Jaguars jumped out to a 36–8 halftime lead and never looked back, combining relentless defense with balanced scoring to secure their third straight win of the season.
Southeast Valley’s offense was firing on all cylinders, with multiple players contributing across the board. Dawson Greene paced the attack with 18 points, while Nicco Jondle added 16 and Rocco Jondle chipped in 10. Cam Johnson scored 5, Tripp Roper tallied 8, Jaxson Halsrud 6, and Nikota Lyons finished with 1. The Jaguars also saw contributions from Trayson Gutshall, Braxton Pierce, Eli Bird, and Roman Pace, whose energy and hustle off the bench helped fuel the team’s dominance.
Defensively, Southeast Valley allowed a few too many second‑chance opportunities in the opening quarter, but quickly tightened up and controlled the game from that point forward. The Jaguars smothered Newell‑Fonda, forcing turnovers and limiting scoring chances, holding the Mustangs to just 17 points overall. The Jaguars’ ability to pressure ball handlers created fast‑break opportunities that turned into easy baskets.
Coach Steinhoff acknowledged the team’s early struggles but praised how they responded, saying, “We started off a little slow, but once we picked up our intensity and locked in on the defensive end, the game shifted. The boys did a great job of sharing the ball and staying aggressive on both ends.” The Jaguars will look to carry their strong play into their next matchup at Ogden on Tuesday night.
